The best D&D gift depends on who is getting it. New players need a dice set or a starter box. Dungeon masters get the most use from a DM screen. Dice collectors want something unusual, and hosts want gear the whole table shares, such as a dice tower. Smaller gifts are single dice sets; bigger ones are towers and screens.

Gifts for a new player
Someone new to the game needs dice first. D&D uses a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20, according to the free basic rules on D&D Beyond, and a standard set adds a second d10 for percentile rolls. Our guide to what dice you need for D&D explains what each die is for.
Two gifts work well for beginners:
- A starter set. Wizards of the Coast’s Starter Set: Heroes of the Borderlands was released on September 16, 2025. It includes a set of 11 dice and is designed for 3 to 5 players of any skill level.
- A dice set in their favorite color. Pick something readable: clear numbers on a solid color are easier to learn with than a busy swirl.

Gifts for a dungeon master
The person running the game carries the most gear and gets thanked the least. A DM screen is the classic present. Wizards of the Coast says the four panels of its 2024 Dungeon Master’s Screen hide notes and dice rolls without blocking the DM’s view of the table. It was released on November 12, 2024, with a revised interior of reference material.
Other ideas for a DM:
- Extra dice, because a DM often rolls for several monsters at once.
- A dice tower, so rolls land in one spot on a crowded table.
- A dice tray or a lined box for dice that stay behind the screen.

Gifts for a dice collector (“dice goblin”)
“Dice goblin” is the joking name for a collector who already owns plenty of standard sets. Look for something they do not have yet.

- Storage. A wooden vault or a compartment box protects the sets they already own.
Gifts for the friend who hosts game night
The host supplies the table, the snacks and often the spare dice. Give them something everyone uses.

D&D gifts by occasion
Christmas
Dice makers announce holiday sets ahead of Christmas. Sirius Dice’s Christmas Candy dice set, with candy sprinkle inclusions in clear resin, was announced for U.S. retail in October 2026. Seasonal sets suit anyone at the table, and they arrive in time for holiday games.
Advent calendars
A dice advent calendar gives a small dice gift every day in December. Fanroll’s D&D Advent Calendar: Red Robes & Winter Woes was announced for retail on October 15, 2026. ICv2 reported it includes inclusion dice, a dice tray and a dice bag, with a d20 revealed on the final day. Some calendars sell out well before December; the advent guide lists which ones had by late September 2026.
Birthdays
Match the gift to how they play. A player who has just picked a new character might like a set in that character’s colors. A regular DM might want the screen or tower from the lists above.
A player’s first session
A first set of dice is a welcoming gift. A single polymer set and a small bag are enough to get them rolling.
Secret Santa
For a gift exchange, stick to stocking-stuffer items: a single dice set, a dice bag, an oversized d20 or a novelty dice jail box. They are useful to any player, whatever class they play.
Free gift ideas for remote groups

Are dice safe gifts for children?
Dice are small parts. The CPSC bans children’s products with small parts that are intended for children under 3, because they present a choking, aspiration or ingestion hazard. Keep dice sets, advent calendars and mini dice away from toddlers, including younger siblings at a family game night.
